Established in 2014, the Lowcountry Maritime Society is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping educate our youth in the fields of science, technology, engineering, art and math using wooden boat construction and other maritime activities as our teaching platform.
Our success has come in our ability engage our students in the path of learning through hands-on projects that are applicable in the “real world”. In addition to learning essential “hard” skills such has science and arithmetic, our students are also exposed to many “soft” lessons and experiences that help improve their social and emotional strengths including learning to work with others in a team and building the patience and perseverance needed to complete a long term goal!
Although our programs have been successful, we are continually working to improve their quality and. Since our establishment, our curriculum has continued to develop and improve in an effort to reinforce the lessons students are learning throughout the school day. We work one-on-one with individual teachers in an effort to bridge the gap between the lessons students are learning while working with LMS and what they are learning in the classroom. This often includes providing teaching materials for teachers and reinforcing certain lessons where it is needed most. We are equally invested in both in-school and afterschool programs that meet the needs of teachers, parents and most importantly, our students.
We are proud to offer unique and lasting experiences for the children that we work with. As we move forward, we will continue to work to improve and expand theses experiences so that every student raised in the Lowcountry will have the opportunity to put there minds and hands to work while learning and discovering what they are capable of.
Please feel free to contact us via email or give us a call if you wish to learn more about our programs or if you are interested in starting a program at a school you care about!
