Established in 2014, the Lowcountry Maritime School is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping educate our youth in the fields of science, technology, engineering, art and math using boatbuilding and other maritime activities as our teaching platform.

We engage our students in the path of learning through hands-on projects that are applicable in the “real world”. In addition to learning essential “hard” skills such has science and arithmetic, our students are also exposed to many “soft” lessons and experiences that help improve their social and emotional strengths including learning to work with others in a team and building the patience and perseverance needed to complete a long term goal!
During the Fall semester of the 2024-25 school year LMS started our very first RC Sailboat STEM Program. In a semester-long or year long program, students in multiple local schools built and learn to sail their very own DF 95 model boat! We have now successfully helped students build close to 150 new DF95’s right here in Lowcountry schools. This new offering has added an exciting new dimension to our programming with the potential to have lasting impacts on the students long beyond their time with LMS!

Students get ready to launch their newly built DF 95 sailboats!
